Azores Oct 25

At 10th Festival De jazz De Ponta Delgada, Azores*

I'll be speaking on

"Jazz Now -- And Its Future," in a lecture-seminar on creative music activities and aesthetics currently emerging from North America, through lively anecdotes, eyewitness reports and audio-video samples of performances in New York, Chicago, the Newport Jazz Festival, New Orleans, Guelph and Ottawa, Canada

Oct 25 4 pm, free, open to the public, at the Teatro Micaelense

My presentation is the third of the Festival de Jazz De Ponta Delgada's associated symposia, which commence October 22 with bassist and music activist Engº Bernardo Moreira addressing "A History of Jazz" and the opening of the photography exhibit "Prelude for a Museum: 60 Years of the Hot Club of Portugal." The Hot Club itself, featuring Moreira, João Moreira (trumpet), Pedro Moreira (saxophone), Claus Nymark (trombone), Rodrigo Gonçalves (piano), Bruno Santos (guitar), André Sousa Machado (drums) and Paula Oliveira (voice), performs at the festival's opening concert at the Teatro Micaelense on October 22. Subsequent concerts include alto saxophonist Lee Konitz with the trio Minsirah (Oct 23), New York-based quartet of trumpeter Demian Richardson, bassist John Blum, drummer Federico Ughi and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter (who all also speak on the topic "People, Let's People,: Oct. 24); the Marty Ehrlich Rites Quartet (Oct. 25), and solo pianist Joachim Kuhn (Oct. 26).

I feel lucky to be going...maybe I'll see you there.
