Ottawa Jazz Festival Jun 24-26

I'll be taking part in three Jazz Matters panel discussions during the Ottawa Jazz Festival

All three panels will start at

Noon at the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage.

June 24 -- Playing Between The Words – common grounds for pop songs and jazz improvisation, with Smithsonian Institution archivist and poet Reuben Jackson, DownBeat magazine critic James Hale, Dr. Alan Stanbridge of the University of Toronto and pianist-composer-New School (NY) educator Andy Milne.

June 25 Arts Journalism: At the Intersection of Artist and Audience – fundamentals and standards of professional arts journalism, a significant force for exposing, promoting and analyzing new and creative work everywhere; with James Hale, Reuben Jackson, and veteran arts administrator Richard Davis from the Department of Canadian Heritage.

June 26 -- Fusion At 40 A discussion of the exploration of electronic instruments, begun in the late 1960s by artists including Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke and Miroslav Vitous, all performing at the Ottawa fest. With James Hale, author of ‘The Seventies’ in The Billboard Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz & Blues, Reuben Jackson, Peter Hum, jazz pianist and assistant arts and culture editor at The Ottawa Citizen, and Wayne Eagles, fusion guitarist and professor at Carleton University.
