"Fats Waller: The Joint Is Jumpin,'" an hour-long radio program will be broadcast on many public radio affiliates nationwide starting Thursday, November 18 (through the Jazz Satellite Network/WFMT). I wrote the script, so I can tell you that Waller's hits including "Ain't Misbehavin'", "Honeysuckle Rose," "Your Feets Too Big" and "Handfull of Keys" are performed by entertainer Ben Vereen, singers Carla Cook and Alan Harris, guitarist Doug Wamble, pianist Ehud Asherie and an octet led by saxophonist Andy Farber; Wendell Pierce is host. The Hot Club itself, featuring Moreira, João Moreira (trumpet), Pedro Moreira (saxophone), Claus Nymark (trombone), Rodrigo Gonçalves (piano), Bruno Santos (guitar), André Sousa Machado (drums) and Paula Oliveira (voice), performs at the festival's opening concert at the Teatro Micaelense on October 22.
